In the wake of World War II, the Stride Rite Corporation helped to manufacture the field boot used by nurses in the war, as well as the WAC boot used by the U.S. Army. The company grew even faster during the post war baby boom, effectively quadrupling the work force and increasing factory floor space. Jacob Slosberg died in 1953, leaving the Stride Rite empire to his children. The company also appeared on the New York Stock Exchange for the first time in 1960. Stride Rite also made day care services and community groups available to the general public through their corporate offices and factories both in and out of the United States. However, the plans for these day care services were stunted because of state regulations for child care, but did not hinder the child care services offered in overseas offices and factories.
